Overview:

On 12 July, Guderian's Panzergruppe 2 had two bridgeheads across the Dnieper; one east of Kopys and Shklov and the Bykhov bridgehead south of Mogilev. Mogilev's defenses had been under construction since late June, and were by now deep and extensive, with minefields, anti-tank ditches, trenches and log bunkers — all reminiscent of World War I. The XXIV Armeekorps was to attack out of the bridgehead to the north, and destroy the enemy southeast of Mogilev and open the Dnieper crossing, but its 4. Panzer-Division was quickly forced on the defensive.

2023-12-27(A) Richard Jenulis vs Will Fleming Russian winMy 88th scenario of the year. A very challenging scenario.
2021-03-09(A) Andy Bagley vs Neil Brunger Russian winGreat scenario, very exciting game. The German defence concentrated on the right (Eastern) side, so the Russians set up and came in mostly from the far western edge. Early German luck knocked out an armoured car and killed a gun crew on turn 1, and their tanks (but not infantry) quickly switched over to their left flank and took up defensive positions. The combined 8FP of the German tanks' MGs made them formidable opponents even without infantry support, and the Russians took heavy casualties as they pressed forward. Eventually though the Russian infantry, supported by two surviving armoured cars, was able to attack the German tanks from all sides, eventually overwhelming them with both DCs finding success, and a lucky CC result getting the PzkwIV.. The Germans conceded at the start of their turn 6; with just two tanks remaining and seven Russian squads adjacent to the road it was impossible for them to force the Russians back. Both of us had great fun though.
2020-12-08(D) X von Marwitz vs Lars-Peder Jensen German winPlayed the defending Germans in this one. My setup restricted some options for the Russians, who concentrated in the Grainfield. Nothing really went his way and he had the worst of luck. With 2 Armored Trucks destroyed and the MA of the other two malfed in the DFPh of German Turn 1 already, he had seen enough and conceded. 2018-02-07(D) Andy Beaton vs Spencer Armstrong Russian winFun, but I'd never play it for any kind of stakes. Both sides are too fragile and too easily undone by a small number of bad rolls. Losing 2 of my tank-fighting tanks to malfed MA's put me in a position of needing to take desperate measures to clear away the Russian AC's, otherwise the Russian infantry couldn't be attacked. Of course it went bad.
2018-01-04(A) Stephen dedier vs Holt, Jim Russian winI am really liking this Friendly Fire pack. This scenario has a Russian horde against a group of German tanks supported by minimal infantry with a goal of getting 3 squad equivalents within 1 hex of a long road. My initial strategy was to take on the tanks with a chunk of my infantry and armored cars and sneak a group of infantry around the flank.
The part about sneaking the infantry around the flank worked well but the Russians are no match for the tanks. My AC took out 1 tank but were slaughtered (I did have 3 crews survive which was later key) and my infantry was overrun into the ground.
Switching strategies I managed to push more squads through and spread them out trying to gain concealment and pray. I also managed to take the 88 with one of my crew's and kill one tank with the captured gun which helped tremendously.
In the end I had to rely on my units concealment and no killer IFT rolls by Jim just managing 3 units with the commissar spread out across the board but in the victory hexes.
Thoughts - having only 2 leaders is very hard on the Russians I left a trail of brokies across the board. I couldn't figure out how to get my AT guns into action. Jim and I talked after and thought the way to go might be to get them as far as you can, offload and push. They are easily pushed and the AC's might be able to shield to make that happen.
all in all a very interesting scenario.
