Overview:
By 10 March, German forces were battling to recapture Kharkov. The SS Panzer Corps battered its way through the city. Kampfgruppe Kumm, composed of the II/Deutschland Regiment, II/Fuehrer Regiment, tanks, and assault guns, was ordered to seize the industrial area east of Kharkov. They took control of the main portion on 15 March. One last bastion of defense remained in the industrial area. The 19th Rifle Division, a battalion of the 17th NKVD Rifle Brigade, and 86th Tank Brigade defended the large complex of Tractor Factory 137.
