Overview:
Rostov, gateway to the Caucasus, was a key city. The Russian successfully withdrew most of their forces south of the Don, escaping the pincers of panzer formations. The First Panzer Army reached Rostov on 20 July. Although most of the Russians had withdrawn, defenses were strong and echeloned in and around the city. The NKVD troops remaining in the city were ordered to fight until the last bullet.Attacker: German (Reinforced elements of Battalion I, Panzergrenadier Regiment 66, Panzer Division 13)
