Overview:
In late '44 the Japanese launched a series of vicious offensives labeled "Operation Ichigo" in central China in order to crush air bases and link up disparate portions of their lengthy front. Large scale troop clashes and genocidal slaughter marked the ferocious fighting that raged for months. The NRA remnants that had just fought the battle of Hengyang were reduced in number to only 20,000 men, and they fell back into the city of Guilin to make a last stand. A perimeter defense at the approaches was established on the 16th, and soon afterward the Japanese arrived in force.Attacker: Japanese (11th Army Group)
