Overview:

On 3 October, Lt. Col. S. T. McDowell’s 3rd Battalion, 117th Infantry Regiment was assigned the capture of Übach to provide a “breakout” position for the 2nd Armored Division’s move towards Aachen. Resistance from pillboxes as well as artillery and mortar fire impeded the advance as the Americans made their way toward the objective across a wide beet field. Once in Übach, GIs worked in concert with tanks of the 743rd Tank Battalion, which blew open the doors of boarded-up houses, allowing infantry to enter and clean out anyone remaining. House-to-house fighting went on all night, with lines never more than a building apart, and frequently resulted in foes separated by only a ceiling or wall. German counter-attacks on the morning of 4 October, employing similar techniques as the Americans and supported by artillery, recaptured several buildings while bypassing other American positions, including the L Company headquarters. McDowell gave the order to push the Germans back.

2025-05-16(D) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best American win2 hrsTough game for my Germans due to poor rolls. Americans ruled the infantry fight from the get go. But, the Germans knocked out all three Shermans, while losing the STUG to a Bazooka shot. I gave the concession after 4, once Dan had secured all three building locations.

2021-12-24(D) Dave Mareske vs Craig Renier German winLost the German AFV to a sniper attack...don't be CE unless you have to! I was able hold onto two of the buildings. The Germans got a couple of timely sniper attacks as well, killing a couple of leaders which slowed down the American advance.
