Overview:

"Blitzkrieg War?" - On 9th September 9, 1939, the Poznan Army in Western Pomerania was the last major intact Polish force. Its leader General Tadeusz Kurtzeba finally got the green light for a counter-attack on the river Bzura, against the flank of the German troops marching on Warsaw with the reinforcement of the Pomeranian Army, then retreating from the "Danzig Corridor". Kurtzeba organized his modest means in two groups, the first of infantry under the command of General Knoll and covered to the west by a second force of cavalry under the command of General Skotniki. The best unit of the latter body was the "Podolska" Brigade, which had been used as a rear-guard for the Poznan Army and was virtually at full strength. The attack, scheduled for the 10th, in some locations commenced the day before, due to the lack of effective communications and because of the aggressiveness of several Polish units that burned to fight.
