Overview:

Antwerp had fallen unharmed into Allied hands All that prevented the use of the port was the German flak and artillery that lined the narrow waterway linking the North Sea to Antwerp: the Scheldt Estuary. Hitler assigned General Eberding as Fortress Commander of the estuary's south shore. OKW permitted flooding of much of the subsealevel terrain and gave Eberding the 64th Infantry Division, totally composed of Russian front combat veterans and heavily armed with support weapons. The Canadian First Army had twice tried to cross the Leopold Canal and reach the Scheldt, and twice had been rebuffed. Today the Canadians would try again

2022-03-13(A) Eric Topp vs Ron Oxford Canadian winRon put most of his Germans (including his HIP Observer) on the west side of the map to cover the foot bridge (SSR 6). I got off to a bad start when I drew two red chits and no black chits for one of my OBA modules. My MTRs did a better job and SMOKE-d Ron's MTR spotter and HMG in building 3M2.

I sent a small force squelching through the Mud on board 9. Without any SMOKE from the light MTRs, they took losses from the German MGs. German HE OBA fire was making it hard to cross the river by the foot bridge. I tried to shuttle troops across the river using a squad to paddle each boat back and forth but it was slow going.

The turning point came with the arrival of my FB. These cut down Ron's Germans as they crossed open ground heading towards board 3. My Canadians broke through in the centre. Then a CH from a MTR KIA-ed Ron's 10-2 leader and he conceded.
