Overview:
While the 9th Canadian Infantry Brigade was mauled during the savage SS counterattacks on 7 June, the 7th Canadian Infantry Brigade got off rather lightly. The Canadian advance on the 7th Brigade area cut the road between Caen and Bayeux. By nightfall on 7 June the Regina Rifles were in Norrey-en-Bessin and the Royal Winnipeg Rifles had captured Putot-en-Bessin. Early on the morning of 8 June the Germans struck back. As the grenadiers of the 12th S came at them through the fields of grain, the "Little Black Devils” prepared to fend off this first threat of the day.Attacker: German (SS) (Elements of II Bn., 26th SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment and 15th Reconnaissance Company, 12th SS Panzer Division)
