Overview:
Once Cholm was cut off, resupply came solely by air. For a time the weather and lack of Soviet interdiction allowed Ju-52s to land and take off from an improvised airfield on the western outskirts of the city. Just over 600 wounded were evacuated in this fashion. However, poor weather arrived and the airfield was placed under Russian indirect fire, so only gliders dared swoop in for a landing, usually in the early dawn hours; but effective resupply of the garrison in Cholm really relied upon Versorgungsbomben supply canisters.Attacker: German (Südost Abschnitt elements of Kampfgruppe Scherer)
