Overview:
On the morning of January 15th, the men of 3rd Battalion, 157th Regiment were ordered to move forward and take two hills north of the town of Reipertswiller. After moving forward, heavy fire suddenly hit them from three directions. The Thunderbirds managed to hold their positions on the hill. With the arrival of SS mountain troops, the pressure on 3rd Battalion increased. On the 16th, the Thunderbirds were continually hit with infantry assaults, rockets, mortars, and long-range tank fire. The Germans had orders to take the hills. The SS attacked both flanks, and through a valley in the American rear. Companies from the 1st and 2nd Battalions moved to reinforce the hilltops.Attacker: German (SS) (Regiment 11, SS Mountain Division 6 "Nord")
