Overview:

The Japanese 106th Infantry Division attacked from west of Nanchang in Jiangxi province, moving southwest along the southern edge of the rugged and heavily wooded Jiuling Mountains. In a few days it had pushed into the upper valley of the Laio River. The Chinese 9th War Area responded by sending the 183rd Division to defend the area around Shangfu, where a road through the mountains descends into the valley and crossed a river. The 183rd arrived at dawn on the 22nd, just hours ahead of the Japanese.

2023-04-02(A) Shane Pask vs Japanese winSet up the Chinese guns too far back - they had little impact on the game. Japanese 5/8" artillery did not fire a shot.
Japs attacked the ridge line in strength (group C at start and group D and Engineers on turn 2). This attack went well with the ridge line cleared by turn 5 and then retaken and cleared on turn 6 and retaken and finally cleared on turn 7 for the win (with board 42 victory). Japs could have won by turn 6 except for some bad luck (2 machine guns malfed and 10 Snakeyes were rolled in 2 turns - most for the Chinese including 3 HOB battle harden rolls). Big game but worth a replay.
2020-11-13(D) Richard Jenulis vs Greg Rodgers Chinese winA very complex and fun scenario with a lot of replay value. The Japanese pushed hard on the hill and nearly won on turn six (a Chinese ambush withdrawal saved them from the disaster). Leaders on both sides were decimated. The Japanese ended the game with a wounded 8-0, the Chinese with a Good Order 8-0 and a broken wounded 8-0. Highlight for the Chinese was an AA gun forcing a Japanese FB to break off it's attack!
2018-02-20(D) Jeff B vs Pierce Mason Chinese win13 hrsChinese set up 3/5 of their guns in the front row to spring some nasty surprises. Unfortunately for them the only nasty surprise was two of them MALFing. Japanese made good initial progress in the north. By Turn 3 they had busted open the road defense but, instead of swinging around to surround and crush the Chinese on the hill, they made a run for the deeper west victory hexes. This would probably prove to be a fatal mistake. Turn 4 saw the Japanese planes arrive and wreak devastation, though one was shot down by a Chinese HMG. Another of the Chinese guns showed its face and almost immediately MALFed as well. Japanese attack in the east had pretty well bogged down due to strong defense of the 42V building, the outlying woods, and a well-placed HMG. It looked like the only chance the Japanese had at victory was in the west. Pierce wisely targeted my lone defender on the 2bAA10 bridge with both remaining planes. Had he broke it would've been game, but instead he bravely survived the onslaught. The middle zone was the first to fall, but a turn too late. And, when the bridge guard ducked into the gully before the charging Japanese hoard could reach him, the Japanese conceded.
2016-09-25(A) Ron Garcia vs Darryl M. Japanese win
2015-03-11(D) Aaron Sibley vs Randy Strader Japanese winExcellent and interesting Scenario. Those Japaneses do have a punch to them...
