Overview:
With “Pavlov’s House” and “Zabolotnov’s House” both still in no-man’s land, the Voentorg building on 9th January Square became a key position, dominating all movement through the square. The 42nd Guards company was soon reinforced by three anti-tank rifles, which they used to repel assault gun attacks during the day-long battles on September 19th and 21st. To better prepare for further attacks a trench was dug across Solechnaya Street, and an anti-tank rifle sited there to enfilade any assault guns. As an added measure, a Maxim machinegun was positioned in a small house close to the Voentorg.Attacker: German (Infanterie-Regiment 518, Infanterie-Division 295 and Sturmgruppe with attached Sturmgeschütz batterie)
