Overview:

During the early stages of the German invasion of Norway, two companies of paratroopers that had landed at Fornebu Airport three hours earlier than planned, loaded on buses with hopes of raiding the Norwegian army headquarters at Hamar and capture King Haakon. But a rag-tag group of reservists answering church bells and volunteers from a local rifle club was organized to block the road seventy miles north of the capital. They felled trees and tipped wagons on the main road and an unpaved bypass not a moment too soon. . .

I made a few mistakes attacking (not enough HS, a couple risky moves that didn't pay off). It was also one of those games where every time I took a risk, I paid for it. Fun scenario, worth replaying.
2019-12-11(A) Jeff B vs Timothy Davis German win4.25 hrsContinuing my quest to play the core scenarios I've never played (which has meant mostly dipping into some old unbalanced ones), I offered my opponent the defense in this one. He made what I thought was a crucial mistake by not covering the middle road with units capable of fire. This allowed me to pull up just beyond the first roadblock and unload concealed (albeit in a mega-stacked situation). I didn't count on the buses being any further use for me the rest of the game, but I did try to drive them around the roadblocks. Typical for me, those that didn't get shot to pieces bogged. An observer pointed out that I didn't need to roll for bog every single hex since Mud was in effect by SSR, but it really didn't matter to me as I wasn't going to risk driving a "gauntlet" of point blank shots anyway. It would've also severely limited my maneuverability, which proved invaluable in my endgame. He also pointed out the SS counters listed on the updated card had to be incorrect due to the timeframe and venue of the battle. Again, it didn't matter, as I suffered a total of one break the entire game, and my 9-2 rallied him back regardless. The Norwegians just could not stand up to my Schwerpunkt, losing 1.5 squads each of the first two turns. Their fragile ELR of 2 also led to a fair amount of disruptions. I went for an east edge push, but when he repositioned his 9-2 kill stack I swung back up into the hills and across to the western side of the road. When he again tried to reposition his 9-2 stack I managed to break him and another squad, pinning the others. At that point he conceded (which was at the end of Turn 6).
