Overview:

The Sherman tanks of 3rd Royal Tank Regiment were in the lead of the armored charge of Operation Goodwood. Thanks to the suppression of the German defenses by Allied bombing and the speed of the advance, they did not encounter any significant opposition. However in their path were the Nebelwerfer batteries of the 272nd Brigade and the self-propelled guns of Batterie 3 of Sturmgeschutz Abteilung 200, commnded by Major Becker. Belying their ungainly appearance, the self-propelled guns were well placed to use their high velocity 75mm and 105mm ammo against the lightly armored Shermans.

2012-11-15(A) Fred Ingram vs Jeff Coleman British winGenerally I stay away from AFV heavy scenarios because ASL is best (in my opinion) as an infantry game with some armor support. This one looked good though, and we are trying to play all of the BtB & Operation Cobra scenarios from BFP.

There is a lot of open ground to cover, and the German tank destroyers have the initial advantage (they are small, have "L" class guns, and the Shermans are large. However, this is a case of quantity being able to overcome. Once the British closed on positions, it was just a matter of time before a hit occurred, and the German armor factors are pitiful.

I was able to destroy enough AFV's and get enough off board at the end to garner 76 victory points for the win. Not sure if I would want to play this again (once was enough). I guess I don' appreciate the finer points of tank melee's.
