Overview:
The fighting in the city of Würselen had raged for three days, with the Americans gaining barely one kilometer of ground. The attack needed to continue in order to make the linkup with VII Corps, which was attacking from the south, and close the ring around Aachen. Elements of the 116th Infantry Regiment attacked on the morning of the 15th, supported by tanks from Company H, 66th Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored Division. The attack ran into the 156th Panzer Aufklaerungs Abteilung and the Americans successfully pushed them back, with both sides suffering significant casualties.
