Overview:
Intense fighting had raged in the valley of Dien Bien Phu for three weeks. The strongpoints of ‘Gabrielle’ and ‘Beatrice’ had been buried beneath the assaults of Viet Minh artillery and massed infantry. The next phase of the battle would be a siege, which began on the night of 30/31 March, 1954. This was the beginning of the Battle of Five Hills. The Moroccans, T’ais and Foreign Legionnaires defending ‘Elaine 2’ would have their chance to halt the Viet Minh steamroller.Attacker: Viet Minh (Elements of the 316th Viet Minh Division (Le Qunag Ba) and of the 351st Heavy Weapons Regiment)
