Overview:

Screened by the mist which aided all of the Volksgrenadier Division 352’s assault companies, the leading two battalions fortuitously struck at the junction between the US 109th Regiment’s 2d Battalion, whose Company E was in Führen and the 3d Battalion’s Company I deployed in front of Bettendorf. Lt. Colonel James Rudder, the commanding officer of the US 109th Infantry Regiment immediately drew upon his meagre reserves and sent A and B companies of the 1st Battalion supported by 1st Platoon Company C, 707th Tank Battalion into a counter-attack. Although progress was slow by nightfall Company A was in sight of Longsdorf and Company B was overlooking Tandel. The morning of 17 December brought as series of uncoordinated attacks by 2nd Battalion Volksgrenadier Regiment 915 against Führen while the 1st Battalion had its hands full with the Americans counter-attacks at Longsdorf and Tandel.

2022-01-10(A) Kevin Sanders vs Jason Littleton American winWell kinda as expected. The 2 TDs never stood a chance. The infantry got some ok results and the AA guns rolled poor or the loss would have been far greater. Used the No of the map to avoid open ground and ran. Got 17 pnts off (lots of luck in that). Any moderate US set up and luck will equal a German loss.
2018-12-01(D) Tom Kearney vs Lindsey Murillo German winThis was the 2nd edition version of the scenario. The Germans easily pushed through my forward defenses but were stalled mid game. The managed to exit the required amount on the last turn after moving through a lot of enemy fire.
2012-04-17(A) Fred Ingram vs Jeff Coleman American winI am at a complete loss as to what the Germans need to do to win this one. We agreed to play all of the scenarios in this pack in order - otherwise, we were greatly tempted to skip this one. ROAR had the Americans undefeated at 5-0, so we automatically gave the Germans the balance. It made no difference at all (15 VP meant both Hetzers and a HS).

The problem is there are three 57L AT guns which essentially have guaranteed kills on the side or rear of the Hetzers with regular ammo. If they get APDS, they also have a slim shot at a frontal kill as well. It is easy to set them up so that there are definite side shot possibilities no matter what the German does (and at a range where the mist is not even a consideration).

Add to this the 2 AA guns and the (2) MMG which can set up crossfires for the infantry and this has all the makings of a turkey shoot. Add to this all of the guns and the MMG may Boresight, and you can see the odds drop even farther for the German.

I am also not sure what the heck to do about the fordable river. The Hetzers cannot go in the river according to the ford rules and the troops will take too long to really get anywhere if they want to use it for more than just crossing the river at a supposedly critical junction.

I started one platoon on the lower side of the river, the other infantry making a board edge creep on the other side of the river to get to mid-board though woods and orchards. The two Hetzers moved on cautiously down the center trying to keep the front CA facing any possible gun positions. The also needed to stay either in motion or at least 6 hexes away from any guns or they could be deliberately immobilized.

Essentially NOTHING worked for the German and the game was conceded on turn 5 with both Hetzers afraid to move forward and the infantry shot to hell. One 57L AT gun, the bazooka, and the 2nd AA gun never even made an appearance.
