Overview:

Volksgrenadier Division 9 had taken up the defense of the Bastogne-Wiltz highway -- the corridor through which all German efforts to capture Bastogne passed. The American 26th Infantry Division, which had already fought for days over thickly wooded-covered and snow-bound terrain, was tasked with cutting the Bastogne-Wiltz highway. To the men of the 2nd Battalion, 101st Regiment fell the lot of having to take Hill 490, juts outside of Wiltz. If Hill 490 could be taken, then Wiltz itself would quickly follow. The severing of the German line of communication to the units attacking Bastogne would be complete.
Attacker: American (2nd Battalion, 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry Division)
