2013-08-29 | (D) X von Marwitz | vs | David Wallace | German win | Well, according to ROAR this one looks pretty pro German. For that reason, we played it with a special balance: No HIP for any German unit, surviving German AFV do not count towards CVP to favor the American and the original WP Smoke mission is always accurate. Still the German won. My opponent conceded after having lost 23 CVP in tanks/AL by turn 3 and another 3 by infantry. One further ht was immobed due to Technical Reliability. Basically, the initial US mechanized, motorized and tank advance went well along the west. This is, where the German put their Schwerpunkt as well - not with an up front defence but rather behind the A5-H8 road (Beware - the F7 building is a death trap for any defenders). I kept the east flank guarded as well with 2 Sqd-Equiv. + PSK around 21Z8 as well vs. any US ht flanking moves. Some further units held the 21P8 area. In the East the German had a tough time holding back the US who concentrated all his armor there. Basically, development was close to "Festung J4 Building" and buying as much time as possible along the way. About one platoon + PSK of Americans were deployed against the 21P8 area and were making slow progress. One of the US tanks with gyro + 9-2AL broke through the line in my back threatening my Panther from the rear and disappearing out of LOS after luckily missing two (ROF) BFF shots. My Panther was pretty isolated so due to the pressure put on him, he moved to counter it. I had him earmarked to take a tank and maybe some enemy Inf with him before he went down. In fact, he managed to take out the US Sherman 9-2+gyro tank after surviving fire to front CA and burned the sucker freeing his back and being partly HD in the end. I guess the scenario can go both ways. I sure felt the pressure by the US. Had I lost the Panther, things might have looked differently. Despite altering the VC and SSR significantly in favor of the US, it still might have been pro German. | ||
