Overview:

By 23 December, the German Bulge offensive was reaching its peak. The 5th Panzer Army was racing for the Meuse river; lead elements of the 2nd Panzer Division were barely 10km from the crossings. There they were met and surrounded by the American 2nd Armored Division. A wild melee ensued as the Germans attempted to destroy the American armor and break out to complete their drive to the Meuse. (Note: errata has Americans as Attacker)
Attacker: American (2nd Armored Division)
Defender: German (2nd Panzer Division)

2023-10-08(D) Andy Goldin vs Michael Agustine American winImportant points -- the errata calls for the Americans to move *first*. Also, our read of German entry requirements is that the German can enter on only one hex. These significantly affect the scenario play, as you might imagine.

My read of the map and at-start forces was that entering on Board 17 to fight my way through the town wasn't desirable, especially since each American squad has a BAZ. Therefore I decided to enter on 19A5, with my plan being to control the 'bowling alley' on Board 19 with Panthers in overwatch while my Mk4s and infantry made for the exit.

Mike moved his tanks to the east and west edges of board 19. In response I tried to flush them out with infantry but that proved costly, as I lost two halftracks and two squads to US AFV MMGs. I didn't make any forward progress until I put Panthers along the woods boards 19/17 in position to get some shots on his tanks. Although I managed to destroy three of his AFVs and the fourth was recalled due to a sniper kill, I had taken a lot of damage. Worth noting is that Mike rolled 'snake eyes' to destroy a Mk4 moving through smoke and a Panther, while then rolling boxcars to malf the MA of two of his vehicles, which reduced their CVP value. And since the Recalled Stuart didn't count for CVP I was behind on the 'war of attrition' for points.

By Turn 4 I realized I had to kill almost all of his stuff on the board AND exit everything I had remaining to win. Moving aggressively to kill a leader-led BAZ position, I flanked it with Infantry (which broke in response to a 3MC) and then rolled up a Panther to blast it... whereupon Mike missed his immobilization shot and my Panther fire had no effect. The game ended on Turn 5 when I managed to destroy his retreating Stuart (which had since malf'd its MA) but my other Panther, having fired all its armament at maneuvering Bazooka-toting infantry in open ground to no effect, took a shot up the grill, ending the game.
2016-07-25(D) James Rimmer vs Martin Marquis American win[Imported from ROAR]
2014-07-05(A) Jason Wert vs Michael Daschbach German win
2013-12-30(D) Vic Lauterbach vs MA German winVictory conditions make entry of US tanks risky, and Germans can exit before US infantry gets within Bazooka range. US player tried to block with M36s and flank with the rest, but multiple misses w/o ROF let the Germans slip by easily. IMHO this one could have used more play testing.
