Overview:

By late December it was obvious to MacArthur that the time had come for the retreat to Bataan. For the Philippine Army’s 71st and 91st Divisions, assigned to hold the Baliuag-Plaridel-Calumpit area, the order to withdraw came not a moment too soon. The 91st withdrew during the morning of the 31st. By 1330, the 71st had hastily withdrawn out of Baliuag just as General Sonoda’s 7th Tank Regiment was moving at full speed down Highway 5 towards the town. Sonoda’s tanks and advanced infantry took up positions around Baliuag to allow the remainder of the force’s infantry to catch up and to prepare for an assault on Plaridel and Calumpit. Fearing the green 51st Infantry Regiment would not be able to stand up to the Japanese attack, Brigadier-General Jones sent two tank platoons, supported by a self-propelled artillery battery, to intercept Sonoda’s tanks.

Then the dice came over strongly to my side: On the first turn 2 M3's malfed their MA including the Armour leader. His MA was immediately disabled and his tank destroyed before he could be recalled. Americans still scored hits that would not penetrate even against a HA-GO at range of 2. My Japs managed a CH with a HA-GO on an M3 that suddenly appeared through trees. The yanks were finally put out of their misery on only turn 3 when a second MA was disabled to recall the tank and my TH-Hero scored a kill - 5 M3 destroyed, one recalled. Final VP Japs 27, Yanks 15. Still, with impartial dice could be worth a replay.
2020-05-02(D) Ulric Schwela vs Stefano Cuccurullo Japanese winJapanese set up as a hedgehog in the village, American went all in and vehicles started popping all over. Japanese reinforcements arrived early, and even with lower CVP target it remained unreachable as losses went 1:1 all the way due to poor Ami dice. Japanese infantry got to join in once the American armour was weakened. Brutal, all out annihilation with furious tank driving back and forth. Proper metal melee (25 tanks on board!) in light PTO, a good way to exercise tank tactics.
