Overview:

The River Meuse was the last major natural obstacle preventing an armored breakout from the Ardennes. It was imperative for the Germans that a number of viable crossings be established before the Allies could re-group. One of three such crossings on the 13th occurred just below Dinant, where Rommel’s 7th Panzer Division breached the defenses. During the night of the 12th, a German motorcycle patrol had crossed the river, sans cycles, on an intact weir near the village. Once they were discovered, the weir was destroyed behind them and bitter French counterattacks threatened to eliminate the tiny bridgehead. The Germans were so shaken by their heavy casualties that Rommel took personal command of the 2nd Battalion of the 7th Regiment to resume the crossing attempt during the morning. . .

2023-11-01(A) Shane Pask vs German winI think this scenario favours the offence. The French finished with 2 squads and a hero with a LOS 11 hexes from the crossing point. I got most of my boats across the river including the ferry with a Pz IV on it. MVP was the French Sniper who wounded Rommel and mortally wounded a FOO amongst others. The German sniper did not fire a single shot. OBA played little part - the Germans killed one FOO on the first shot with a critical hit, The French sniper killed another and the remaining 2 FOO drew 2 red chits each with 1 fire mission between them (the fire mission did stun a tank too stupid to button up and ALMOST started a fire).

French managed to quickly clear units setup across the river then took positions along the banks to conduct a "turkey shoot" at the rafts in the water. Germans accepted the bloody repulse at end of Turn 4.
