Overview:

Hill 27 was a separate rocky elevation, 920 feet high, just east of the Gifu. The leading assault troops of the 2nd Battalion gained the summit of the hill at 0907 without firing a shot. By 1130 hours the entire assault force had reached the summit, the Japanese having been completely surprised. The 2nd Battalion began to organize a defense on Hill 27, but digging in was difficult. Before the preparations could be completed, the Japanese to the north had recovered from their surprise and attacked to recapture the hill.

2026-06-26(D) Paul Legg vs Andy Bagley American winDouble One 2026 - Mini AM

I setup most units out of potential LOS, the only units were half-squads manning the light mortars.. The Japanese were unable to generate smoke which hampered their efforts to ascend the hill.
2026-06-26(A) Andy Bagley vs Paul Legg American winConsensus seems to be that the Japanese probably need the balance to make this one a decent fight. I didn't have balance, nor did I get any smoke/WP from my mortars, and against a well-prepared Japanese defence it was always going to be an uphill struggle (pun intended!). The Americans used reverse slope positions which made it very hard to banzai, and took a heavy toll on my Japanese trying to advance up the hill. By turn four I had taken a few Level 2 hexes but clearly wasn't going to achieve the number I needed, so conceded.
2025-11-13(D) Dan Best vs Kermit Mullins Japanese win2 hrs
2025-11-13(A) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best Japanese win2 hrsJapanese had hot dice, which allowed them to smoke both MMG positions and one mortar position. On Turn 2 the Japanese charged up the hill and got into CC with a couple locations after breaking the American left flank. The Japanese lost 5 .5 squads and the Americans lost 8.5 squads. The Japanese won immediately at the end of Turn 3.
