Overview:

The surprise Soviet blitzkrieg across the eastern border of Manchukuo did not necessarily seal the fate of the Japanese 5th Army. The key was the quick capture of a great railroad bridge spanning the Mutan River north of the strategic city of Mutanchiang. The point unit, the Soviet 257th Tank Brigade, roared into Hualin just over a mile northeast of the bridge. Under orders to maintain the advance with all speed, a reinforced tank company was sent down the road in hopes of achieving a second coup de main that day. . .

2015-11-19(A) Bill Brodie vs Eric Topp Japanese winThis one is very tough for the Russians. They are virtually obliged to drive into an ambush, and face waves of DC carrying tank hunter here's and banzaiing Japanese, probably through clouds of snake wand WP from the mortars and infantry guns.
Any Russian unit that breaks is likely to die from failur to rout, and the Russians also have to worry about the mines.
I had very good luck in the beginning, surviving six consecutive DC wielding anti tank heroes, two got through, but their attacks did not damage the tanks. The following banzai attacks managed to kill four tanks. I then moved off everything I could, but was nine EVP short, on the next turn the Japanese killed two of my remaining AFV with Banzai charges, the last escaped, I then was left with three squads, the exit of any would win the game. It was not to be, all three broke while making a run for the exit hexes, and were eliminated for failure to rout.
A good scenario to test out the Japanese, but not a great deal of fun for the Russian player.
