Overview:

Defense of Stalingrad’s central district and the all important main ferry landing lay largely in the hands of hastily mobilized militia composed of factory workers and the NKVD garrison. These troops would have to hold the Wehrmacht at bay until the 13th Guards Division could cross the Volga into the city. But as the German 76th Infantry Division entered the ruins of downtown Stalingrad on a two-mile front, they met the enemy in a new environment more suitable to his talents. Nevertheless, as Captain Gerhard Muench personally led his 3rd Battalion in the assault, he had every expectation of reaching the Volga that day. . .

2022-05-25(A) Jason Nichols vs Rob MacGinley German winAn old fashioned 10 turn meat grinder scenario set in the hell of Stalingrad. My Germans made steady, but not remarkable progress against the Russian defenders. I used Meunch with the HMG on level 2 to keep the Russians' heads down but he was unable to make much of an impact. Most of my force was concentrated in the south and I managed to get within striking distance of the factory by turn 9. Managed to lock the last Russian defenders in melee on German turn 10. No reinforcements meant Rob had to win both CC in his turn to win. Germans won both and sealed the victory. A very enjoyable game to play as the German. Lots of choices to make. Would like to play as the Russian as well.
2022-01-13(A) Jeff B vs Bronson Banhart German win4 hrsNorth was too lightly defended so the Germans attacked hard here, with enough units in the south to prevent mass Russian repositioning. Two German kill stacks softened up the Russian middle, while the rest of their force made a strong sweep around the top. By the end of Turn 2 all but one Russian unit on Board 1 was eliminated (and this squad was broken). Russians lucked out and got one reinforcing squad on Turn 2, but he would be unaided the following turn and hard pressed to keep the German horde at bay. The INF gun HIP in the factory made its presence known eviscerating a HS, but these two units were easily overrun by the Germans, and the factory was secured by the end of Turn 4. The only high point for the Russians was their sniper. I must have rolled at least a dozen 7s on Turns 3/4 alone.
2021-06-07(A) David Garvin vs Loic Gourdon Russian (NKVD)/Russian winAs always a fantastic game. I've yet to win this one as German, but I'd play it 100 times even if I knew I'd not win. Every match I had a chance to win and in this one it was no different. I was trying to balance my attack to keep his forces off balance and for the most part it worked.
That said, his reinforcements were timely, especially the player turn after I eliminated some 7 or so of his squads, mostly through failure to rout and also a very spectacular Close Combat.
Key event was his sniper activating and on a "1" hit a hex with my 9-2 and a kill stack that was slaying the Soviets and keeping them pinned up in various buildings. My 9-2 went down and the resulting LLMC saw the rest of the troops melting away. 10-2 "Muench" made it to the far edge with some troops and could have exited to keep a few reinforcements from entering, but there was nobody left to follow up.
By CVP count, the Germans suffered some 40% losses and the Russians were down some 70% of their starting force, offset by the 628s coming in from the other side of the Volga.
