Overview:
The Germans attacked westward from Mortain in two columns. The north column featuring Kampfgruppe Schake forced the 39th Infantry Cannon Company to abandon its 105mm howitzers in Le Mesnil Tove, bypassed Cherence le Roussel and halted in Le Mesnil Adelee, a small village four miles deep in American territory, where it set up in defense.
