As Czechoslovakia's disintegration continued, a Ruthenia nationalist militia known as the "Sich" rose up and raided the unguarded armory in Khost. A nationalist movement by Augustine Voloshyn declared the independent country of Ruthenia, with its capital city in Khost. Armed with machine guns the militia now prepared to defend against any attempts to thwart the movement. Resistance came from Hungary which was already in the midst of their invasion of their ancient lands, lost in the Treaty of Trianon after the Great War.
