Overview:

Wanting to continue his advance, in an effort to keep the Allies from regaining their footing, Rommel turned over the defence of the village to a battalion from Schützen-Regiment 14, 5.Panzer-Divison. With little time to consolidate its position, I./Schützen-Regiment 14 was unable to form a cohesive defence. Seizing the initiative, Lieutenant-General Rene Prioux, commander of Corps de Cavalerie, gathered up a squadron of Somua S-35 tanks and a battalion of motorized infantry from the 1ère division légère mécanique, and with some artillery support launched a hasty counterattack at 17:00 hours.

2022-12-09(D) Jim Bishop vs David Blackwood French winThis is a tough one on the French, particularly in trying to eliminate the S35's. In my playing, I concentrated on punishing the French Infantry. I also managed to eliminate two of the hts limiting French mobility. Was a close game to the end with two key CC's going the German way for the win.
2022-12-09(D) Mark Thompson vs Tony Gibson (French) French winThe Germans held on until their last player turn and conceded when a broken squad in their 3rd controlled building could not successfully withdraw from CC. The German AT guns were bedeviled by fate (both malf’d, one on its first shot at an S-35 rear, the other after scratching the paint on an S-35s front), but much more so by their placement - too conservative (in the village) and unable to interdict the Lorraines approaching the village from the West and North. The French skillfully used the S-35s to contain the German MMGs while their mounted troops encircled the village. In retrospect, it was probably a foregone conclusion by Turn 3, but the ensuing building assaults and CCs were entertaining. Good game, fun scenario.
