Overview:
A small town outside of Shanghai, Luodian, was a transportation hub connecting Baoshan, downtown Shanghai, Jiading and numerous other towns with highways. The defense of Luodian was critical to the defense of Shanghai, among other population centers -- so critical, in fact, that the German military advisor, Generalleutnant Alexander von Falkenhausen, made unequivocally clear to Chiang Kai Shek that the town had to be held at all costs. The Chinese concentrated more than a quarter million men there, while the Japanese attacked with 100,000, reinforced by armor and air assets.Attacker: Japanese (Elements of the 11th Infantry Division)
Defender: Chinese (Elements of the 15th Army Group)

2024-10-07 | (A) David Garvin | vs | Nick Faryna | Chinese win | Who needs an AT Gun with some pretty good ATR shots? :) Fun little scenario: I need to learn how to fight Japanese better. I did do one Banzai Charge that was moderately successful.
2023-07-16 | (D) Jobbo Fett | vs | RootinPutin | Chinese win | A difficult loss for the Japanese who banzai'd early and never found an advantage in CC, due in large part to very good rolls that always managed to reduce or kill Japanese soldiers. Tanks on both sides barely provided anything to the battle, and most of the Chinese guns either missed or broke. The reinforcing mechanic for the Chinese meant that I could nearly instantly send troops into my heavily fortified location (the 3-hex rowhouse/building south of the church). With the steam in Japan's fighting engine drastically low, there simply wasn't any way for the attacker to make any further gains by Turn 3. I think the Chinese shouldn't get reinforcements until later in the scenario, certainly not Turn 1/2, the air support might be better as an automatic thing rather than choosing between it and reinforcements, and a note promoting WP from the mortars as a helpful reminder would be better. As it was, the Japanese player got diced a little,

2022-05-20 | (D) David Ramsey | vs | Martin Barker | Chinese win (VASL Log) | Very different style of attack needed by the Japanese. Losing a tank and a bunch of squads in CC gave the Chinese 6 extra squads over the course of the game which was just too much for the attacker to handle. As featured on IR67 |
