Overview:

In October 1941, as the East Army concentrated its efforts on Moscow, the advance continued elsewhere, admittedly at a very moderate pace due to logistical constraints and the climate. The 6th Army, stretched out for almost 200 kilometers through the autumn mud and suffered the first waves of cold. However, it was approaching Kharkov, the second largest city in the Ukraine, facing Soviet troops still affected by the disastrous encirclement of Kiev in September. The Soviet 38th Army also received the order to retreat to the Donets while gaining the time necessary to evacuate the last factories from Kharkov and destroy what could not be taken away. And, for lack of means, they set fire to everything.
