Overview:

Defending part of the Dunkirk perimeter, the three battalions of the 137e R.I. were in position along the Aa Canal. The II Battalion of the 137e R.I. was attacked at several points along the canal. The fighting was fierce at the Saint-Folquin bridge where I.R. Grossdeutschland was attempting to force its way across the canal, supported by assault guns. Knowing that a French counterattack was imminent, the II/137e R.I. and two attached 75mm self-propelled AA guns were determined to slow the German advance as much as possible until then. Grossdeutschland fought its way across the Aa Canal, inflicting heavy losses on the II/137e and knocking out the French SPAA guns, but not before they destroyed several German assault guns. The II/137e launched the counterattack at 0900 hours, reinforced by five Hotchkiss H35 tanks.
Attacker: German (Elements of Infanterie-Regiment (mot) Grossdeutschland and Sturmgeschütz-Batterie 640, subordinated to Panzer- Division 1.)
Defender: French (Elements of the II/137e Régiment d’Infanterie, 21e Division d’Infanterie and the 402e Regimental Air Defense detachment and Reinforcements of II./137e R.I.)

2024-04-04(A) Paul Works vs Tom Meier German winFrench set up forward, near the canal. He was able to delay the German assault across the canal, but did suffer substantial casualties. One fanatic, 2-4-8 French HS with a mortar delayed the advance of seven German squads along the north edge, but was eventually KIA'd in CC. Both French AA trucks died - one burned by a fun 50mm mortar 2DR. Germans were not able to get to the VC buildings due to the French resistance (pun intended), but did get a robust defense in place - in the very north-west corner on the east side of the railroad, near the hill - as the French reinforcements arrived. One StuG held off all five French tanks by being in a nice hull down position; the StuG immobilized two of the H35s and another H35 immobilized attempting ESB... The Stuka hit another H35, but the bomb had no effect. In the end, the French simply did not have enough FP or troops to push the Germans off to the west of the railroad. Fun scenario with lots of interesting options.

2020-10-08(D) Andy Beaton vs Steve Pleva German winFrench got some early hits in but were massacred trying to retreat to the rail line. The Germans were over the line in force well before French reinforcements arrived so the French conceded.
2020-06-04(A) Andy Beaton vs Spencer Armstrong German winGermans took the short route and steamrolled the French defenders west of the tracks. Took some casualties but enough guys were over the tracks before the French defence gelled. French tanks and OBA reduced me to 2 good squads and a wounded 10-2 hero fighting a French squad by himself but it was enough.
For the bucket list: My Stuka was driven off by heavy AA before it could bomb anyone.
2020-05-11(A) Jeff B vs Steve Etzelmueller German winMy opponent wanted to play something from the new DFtB and selected this to defend. I told him it was going to be quite difficult for him and boy was I right. French setup restrictions force them to setup unconcealed in rather poor cover relatively close to the Germans. With a 9-2, 8-1, lots of MGs, and two StuGs, expect the French to be shot to shit - and they were. Two KIAs worth. StuGs both dropped smoke to allow a fairly safe bridge crossing, and away we were. I chose the southern route, as it offered fair protection with all the grain and woods. French were down to one good squad here by the start of Turn 2. As the French scrambled to retreat back to the elevated RR, the Germans ran fairly unopposed through the center of the board. By the end of Turn 4 they were at the RR doorstep, with every intention of going for the decisive building control VC, French did their best to reinforce this area, but without great MGs or MAs their tanks couldn't hold off the Germans and it was over after German T6. I really never even thought about using my OBA.
