Overview:
By the end of May 1940, the catastrophic unfolding of the battle for France caused the Allies to evacuate Norway. Nevertheless, it was decided to take Narvik in order to close the campaign on a victory and lessen the earlier humiliations. On the 28th, after an artillery barrage, a company of the 2nd Battalion of the Podhalansha Light Infantry and a pair of H-39s attacked along the coastal road to secure the town of Ankenes and thus control the Beisfjord south of Narvik.Attacker: French (2ème and 4ème Bataillon, Brigade Autonome de Chasseurs de Podhale with 342ème C.A.C.C.)
Defender: German (Kompanie 2, Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 137, Marine Battalion Freitag-Loingholen and Strosstruppe Rieger)

2023-11-03 | (A) Pascal Boileau | vs | Gerard Gambin | German win | Lost by the French player both on the CVP count and failure to control enough buildings hexes on the last turn. In addition, my dice rolls didn't help the French troops in their attack..
2023-05-16 | (A) Rob Schmitt | vs | Mitchell Davis | French win | I was French (Polish) attacker vs German Defender. Mud was a major factor in movement and affected HE attacks as well. The French were able clear off the defending Germans from the overlooking hill in turn 1 and this cleared the way for movement on the road to the building hex objectives. German mortar MALFed early. The French infantry took the high ground and were able to fire and break Germans from high vantage point. The German AT gun took out the lead tank, and the 2nd tank promptly hid for the rest of the game so as to not give away the CVPs. The AT gun could do little against the infantry on the high ground due to mud effects. Battle went back and forth with German holding on until start of turn six. German player had only his AT gun and two functioning squads (one locked in Melee). 5 squads were broken and he could not rally any during his attempts. German conceded at that point. French were in good shape to acquire 10+ building hexes.
2022-08-16 | (D) Jeff B | vs | Joe Arthur | French win | 4.25 hrs | No huge surprise considering the small/dicey nature of this scenario, but it's never any fun when a few lucky dice rolls spoil a game. That was the case here on Turn 2 when a 1+2 bounding fire CMG shot broke my mortar HS, and his mortar knocked out my AT crew. My return fire from the 8-1/MMG squad KIA'd the French mortar HS, but he was soon replaced with another who scored a vengeful CH on Turn 3 which KIA'd my squad (and eliminated the MMG), leaving my 8-1 alone to eventually fend for himself in CC (which, unsurprinsgly, didn't end well for him). My own bit of fortune on Turn 2 (immobilizing one of his tanks with my mortar) mattered little when his radioless tank continued to pass TC after TC as, without my AT gun, one tank was more than enough to cause issues with my troops. Without the loss of my lynchpin defenders I think the Germans could've contained the multiple French waves, but as the 8ML reinforcements continued to pile up it got to the point where there were just too many of them. When yet another exceedingly lucky French roll on Turn 5 (snakeyes) killed my 9-2 and accompanying squad in CC, I decided to throw in the towel.
2022-06-20 | (A) David Garvin | vs | Nick Faryna | French win | Great game, in the end, I was able to pin a German squad to retain the win!
2021-12-30 | (D) David Garvin | vs | Varick Ready | German win | The dice just were not with the French this day. Between a sniper attack to kill a leader followed by a timely berserk elite German squad (that survived all defensive fire against him), the French just were not able to get near the buildings. By turn 3, they had suffered 12 CVP already, so the bell tolled. |
