Overview:

On 6 February, the Marines turned their attention to the provincial headquarters and the prison. using tear gas to incapacitate the North Vietnamese soldiers, who had few if any protective masks, they captured both facilities in a fierce battle that lasted until midafternoon. From the documents and materials they captured, the Marines deduced that the provincial administration building had recently served as the headquarters of the 5th PAVN Regiment. The tired but elated Marines hauled down the Viet Cong banner that had flown from a flagpole in the courtyard and raised the Stars and Stripes while a CBS film crew captured the event.
