Overview:

The day was a frantic one for the men of KG Scherer. Early in the day two of the four field kitchens had been destroyed by a direct hit, worse still the hospital quarters had been set alight by Russian high explosive incendiary rounds. However, the wounded were evacuated in time before being incinerated, the same could not be said for the lost gulaschkanone. Things continued to deteriorate. In the early afternoon, Russian armor in the area of Lausepelz and the nearby Northern Graveyard threatened to penetrate the German lines cutting off the defenders at Koch's Bridge. This seemed to be an almost certainty when the PaK 36 screening the area suffered a mechanical failure.
