Overview:

With the 1st Panzer in the line, the attack moved forward again on the 11th. Eckinger’s I/113th Rifle Regiment, reinforced by a company of the 1st Panzer Regiment and a platoon of engineers, was in the lead. Von Richtofen’s Stukas arrived right on time and blasted a path through the Soviet positions. With Colonel Westhoven’s 1st Rifle Regiment providing flank support, Eckinger headed for Hill 167, known as “Bald Hill.” The 6th Panzer Company, commanded by 1st Lt. Wolfgang Darius, and the leading company of Eckinger’s battalion hit a naval artillery battery and succeeded in destroying the guns before the surprised Russians could fire a shot at them. At 1230 Darius sent the following message to his battalion headquarters: “I can see St. Petersburg (Leningrad) and the sea.” Hill 167 had finally fallen.

2020-03-04(A) B-E Karlsson vs Russian German win
2019-03-24(A) Shane Pask vs German winI bypassed the kill zone of the bunker guns and easily swept up the Russian defence except for the ranking leader on the ridge line who battle hardened and turned hero (He even successfully ambushed a pioneer squad). Time became the crucial factor for the Germans with the second bunker not falling until the last turn. Artillery and Stukas were largely ineffective. Apart from one truck (and occupants) destroyed by the mortar and a Stuka damaged by the AA, Russian guns were also fairly ineffective
2012-01-01(D) Damon Norko vs John KNowles German winI had to throw in the towel to John Knowles' Germans in U26: Bald Hill. As you know, I've played a lot of ASL lately of all kinds and IMHO this is the MOST unbalanced scenario I have seen. It's decidedly not a dog -- it has great OBs, an interesting situation, and plays out a historical re-enactment of the action quite well. ROAR has it at 8:1 Germans (soon to be 9:1).

ASL strategy question: what would you need to defeat two automatic turn 1 Stukas, a prereg rex with smoke barrages, 3x engineers with dcs and Fts, TWO -2 leaders, a company of regulars, a complete swarm of HTs (6!), 4 tanks with two ALs and 10 turns with plenty of maneuvering room?

Well, you get about a company, some wire, RBs and five guns, but two of them have a fixed CA (pillboxes -- the whole scenario is about them being flanked).

In our game, the smoke barrage shut down the front line and John followed the script with not one but two flanking attacks, One side was stopped cold, but the real schwerepunkt simply drove on past the Guns of Nava-hit, taking a couple of small dings but unleashing a flood of vehicles on the flank. Even with really good rolling there were just too many to hit.

I actually lost relatively few squads when I resigned about halfway through, but the position was so thoroughly compromised and he still had FIVE turns!

Anyway, if anyone plays this for the nice historical flavor, do make the 3-sq FXs into trenches, allow the balance and make smoke barrages (not concentrations) NA. I think that would help a lot without changing the scenario much.
