Overview:
In the early morning hours of February 16th, forces of Gen Eberhard von Mackensen's Fourteenth Army launched Operation FISCHFANG (Catching Fish) to eradicate the Anzio-Nettuno beachhead. Elements of four German divisions swept down on the US 45th (Thunderbird) Division, thinly stretched out along the muddy, featureless terrain north of Anzio. From its entrenched positions astride the Anzio-Albano Road, Captain Felix Sparks' Company E, 157th Infantry, found itself hit by veterans of the crack 29th Panzergrenadier Regiment, 3rd Panzergrenadier Division, supported by armor.Attacker: German (29th Panzergrenadier Regiment)
