Overview:
Operation Barbarossa was only eight days old and foot infantry were expected to seize and hold ground that the Panzers had overlooked. The German 78th Infantry Division was ordered to take the village of Popelevo where elements of the Russian 4th Armored Division had reformed. Artillery was unable to intervene in the close fighting.
