Overview:
One of the few units near the bridge not attached to the 2nd Parachute Battalion was Platoon No. 8 of the 3rd Parachute Battalion. Accompanied by men from the Headquarters Defense Platoon, Platoon No. 8 probed outward into the factories of the industrial district east of the bridge. The group set up a perimeter and organized a plan to ambush any passing Germans. They would simply stay put throughout the evening and reconnoiter further under cover of darkness.
